CONCERT REVIEW

After a series of Sunday afternoon concerts, Billybop, presented a Friday night gig with the Portuguese band “49 Special”. As always the location was at Oostkamp in “De Gilde”.  In an atmosphere reminiscent to a real honky tonk, the bands play in front of you, the bar is on you right and Cajun Queen chef Vital is cookin’ his Gumbo on your left. 

This Friday was no different, except for the fact that the band didn’t show up on time.  Arriving from Porto, that Friday evening it was the one member of the band living in Venlo, (Netherlands) that couldn’t make it on time.  Instead of performing around 8 o’clock, “49 special “ kicked of at almost 10.30h pm.  But it was worth waiting for. After a little sound check the band started to perform and did so for about 2 hours straight up, with only a minor 10 minutes break.  Additional to their set list, American born Ruby Ann came on stage as well to perform two tunes + .an improvised version of Mr. Sandman.

As always the atmosphere is great on the Billybop gigs, the beer is cheap, the gumbo spicy and if you paid some attention there was free Jack Daniels as well.  Damn if you missed it, but be sure to be there whenever a new series of Sunday afternoon gigs kick of.
